Chain lengths, and where each one sits

Every chain here is one of four lengths. The number decides where the pendant lands, and that is the whole difference between a choker and a necklace.

A chain is quoted as a base length plus an extension, and both numbers matter. The base is where the clasp closes with the extension unused. The extension lets the same piece sit lower on a wider neck or a thicker wrist.

The table below is counted from the pieces listed today, not from a chart.

Where each length lands

A 16+2 inch chain sits at the base of the neck. Fastened at the base length it reads as a choker, and let out to its full length it drops to the hollow of the throat. This is where the sideways crosses live, and it is the reason they follow the collarbone instead of hanging.

An 18+2.5 inch chain lands below the collarbone, which clears a crew neck and shows in an open collar. It is the length people picture when they say necklace, and it is what the sunflower letter pieces use.

Bracelets here are 6+2 inches: a 6 inch chain with a 2 inch extension. A 6 inch wrist wears it closed, and the extension covers the rest of the usual adult range.

A doubled chain changes how the disc behaves. Two strands hold the letter face up more often than one, which is the point of the format, and it also means the disc rubs against two chains rather than one. That is where the plating goes first.

What the numbers do not tell you

Length is measured along the chain, not around a neck, so two people with the same collar size can wear the same chain at different heights. Nothing here compensates for that, and no piece in this range is adjustable beyond its extension.

The catalogue also states no chain thickness, because the maker publishes none. What we can say is that every chain here is thin enough that the pendant, not the chain, is what people see.
